The vision of this super tall residential tower for Xi'an was to create a timeless tower rooted in history while looking towards the future. Triangular in its footprint, the tower rises 300m above the Xi'an plain with a subtle taper towards the top. Cladded in shingle like curtain wall units made out of copper colored aluminum and low iron glass, the facade evokes the metallic armors worn by the terra cotta warriors in ancient times. Largely residential in use, the tower epitomizes 21st century living with open plan layouts taking advantage of the views in all directions. Three sets of angled shear walls at each corner, coupled with the concrete core, allow the floor plate to be essentially column free. Although unbuilt, this project remains a inspiring tall building precedent in the studio.

Yueqi Jazzy Li made critical contributions to this Ennead Architects project in the capacity of the Senior Designer.
