Chan Chit Lo is a unisex brand established in New York. The first collection debuted at New York Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2019. Framing fashion as a poetic narrative, Chan Chit Lo’s collections tell stories of subversion and reinterpretation. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Mixing the hand crafted with the machine made, imperfection with precision, the uniform with tailor made, Chan Chit Lo aims to pioneer an independent fashion creative with a clear conscience towards the environment and timelessness.
We are excited to work within the bones of the wonderful Xiansuo 现所 building to stage our inaugural show in Shanghai. For the proposal, we designed a room in one of the ground floor storefronts with ample ceiling height and great transparency from both sides.
Maximum transparency. Maximum Impact. With this installation, we hope to evoke on the first sight the sensation of being at the ocean’s bottom. A series of custom made fish nets are suspended from the ceiling, together with two mannequins at the center. Floors and walls are covered with dark carpet tiles, acting as a muted backdrop for the “ocean life” on display. Some of the circular nets also double duty as dressing room and lights for the cylindrical display table.
Once inside, the two suspended mannequins draw your eyes upward, presenting a mesmerizing array of nets, crochets, and flowers. This field of translucent volumes sway gently in the moving air, creating an abstract version of waves and clouds.
Practically, these nets can be readily hung off of existing lighting tracks or a few additional armatures. It is not necessary to drill into the ceiling for each volume of nets.
